“Astana Arlans” became the winner of the World Series of Boxing for the first time in history – WSB

11.05.2013

In Astana, the Kazakh club defeated the Ukrainian Atamans in an incredibly difficult battle - 6:5.

Worth seeing

It makes no sense to retell everything that happened in Astana. Those who wanted to came to the packed Saryarka cycling track or watched the fights on TV. For those who haven’t seen it, I sympathize with you.

It was worth looking at the space alien “hiding” in the body of Vasily Lomachenko. The superiority of this Ukrainian lightweight over people is too great. It was worth seeing how the short Sep hammered blows into his hefty opponent, causing him to bend in half and become as tall as the Croatian. It was necessary to evaluate the look with which Baghdad Alimbekov entered the ring for the main fight of the tournament - he was going to battle, to war. And he won. And with him the whole team. This is a very important clarification. The main creator of everything that happened in Astana was the team, and not the individual successes of the star boxers. If the “wolves” lost to the “atamans” in terms of the number of titled fighters, they surpassed them in another way – in the total concentration of efforts.

Despite this fact

At the beginning of the season, the club's general director Bolat Mankenov made a risky bet on Ukrainian coach Sergei Korchinsky. And now a campaign is unfolding on the Internet aimed at keeping Sergei Anatolyevich at the club. And some say that such a specialist would be useful in the national team. By the way, not a single WSB club has such a difficult situation as in Astana Arlans. While the champions of Ukraine 2012 and almost all the heroes of the Olympics en masse became “chieftains”, when the Italians and British became stronger participants in the London Games, the “wolves” were unable to receive a SINGLE Kazakh collection. This is because the World Boxing Championships will be held in Almaty in October, where our team needs to perform as best as possible. Therefore, the strongest home-grown fighters were not in the club. Despite this fact, the club reached the final and won.

One "pack"

There were a lot of nerves, emotions, blood and knockdowns in this final. There were also displays of fantastic courage. Let's say, although Mihai Nistor lost to Alexander Usik, he only gained respect for his constant desire to go on a swashbuckling attack. And the way Ruslan Myrsataev spent the fifth round against Archipenko is a story about courage and will. And personally, I cannot say that his victory was undeserved.

The WSB final is a living reminder that in team sports, everything is decided not by the heroic efforts of individuals, but by a united team and a common goal. In the final, it was not foreigners and Kazakhstanis who fought for Astana Arlans. People from a common flock fought for the club, who wanted only one thing - to win.
