X Asian Athletics Indoor Championships

From February 10 to February 12, 2023, the capital of Kazakhstan hosted the 10th Asian Athletics Indoor Championships. More than 500 athletes took part in the large-scale event.

The championship was held in the athletics sports complex "Qazaqstan". The competition is one of the most important athletics events of the Asian Athletics Association calendar in 2023. It should be noted that the Asian Athletics Indoor Championships is held for the first time in the territory of the CIS countries. In total, in the competition, athletes will perform in 26 athletics disciplines, including running, throwing, jumping and all-around.

The opening ceremony was attended by the President of the Asian Athletics Association - Dahlan al-Hamad, the President of the Athletics Federation of the Republic of Kazakhstan - Danial Akhmetov, members of the Council of the Asian Athletics Association, heads of national federations from Asian countries, as well as honored athletes and figures of Kazakhstani sports.

Our athletes showed the following results:

  • Kazakh athlete Karolyn Chepkoech Kipkirui became the winner of the continental championship, she had no equal in the 3,000 meters. She covered this distance in 9:01.98 seconds. "Silver" went to the Chinese woman Uga He, "bronze" went to the Japanese Yuma Yamamoto.
  • Kazakh athlete Elina Mikhina became the winner in the 400 meters
  • Mikhail Litvin became the silver medalist. At a distance of 400 meters, he managed to show the second result.
  • Bronze medal for 18-year-old Akbayan Nurmamet in the 1500 meters race
  • Athletes from Kazakhstan won all the medals in the high jump at once.
  • Three athletes settled on the podium - Nadezhda Dubovitskaya with gold, Kristina Ovchinnikova with silver and Elizaveta Matveeva with bronze!
  • in the relay race 4 to 400 both the men's and women's teams won gold medals
  • David Efremov in the 60m hurdles. Our athlete covered this distance in 7.65 seconds. The second place was taken by Chem Kue Ru (7.68), the third was Japanese Shukei Ishikawa (7.70).
This is a phenomenal result and now the national team of Kazakhstan has 6 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze medals, which allowed them to take the 2nd place in the team at the home X Asian Athletics Indoor Championships.
