The history of the origin and development of Greco-Roman wrestling.
Various finds of archaeologists suggest that wrestling was most popular in ancient Greece. Wrestling has been included in the Olympic Games program since 704 BC. She was part of the classic pentathlon pentathlon: running, javelin throwing, discus throwing, jumping and classical wrestling. The famous Greek athlete Theseus was the founder of the first rules: the wrestler who throws the opponent to the ground three times won. Great importance was paid to the professional training of wrestlers in Greece, the first schools for the training of athletes were organized there. Fighting techniques were widely used in the training of warriors.
Rules of Greco-Roman wrestling
A duel in Greco-Roman wrestling competitions consists of two periods of 3 minutes each, with a half-minute break between the periods. The victory in the duel is awarded to the athlete who managed to press the opponent with his shoulder blades to the wrestling mat (carcass). The victory is also counted if the wrestler wins two periods on points. If the score is the same, the judge appoints additional minutes to determine the more active wrestler. Athletes earn points after successful receptions or for violations of the rules by an opponent.
