IN THE “MY SPORTS STORY” COLUMN – MASTER OF SPORTS IN ATHLETICS YEGIZBAY SHERKHAN

Master of Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan, an 18-time national champion in athletics and an athlete who has set six records, Yegizbay Sherkhan shared the story of the beginning of his sporting journey.

According to the athlete, his interest in sports emerged in 2018. It was then that he first saw his older brother practicing athletics, which sparked a strong interest in this sport. His first training sessions began out of simple curiosity, but over time this interest grew into a serious goal — to pursue sports professionally. Thus began his journey in athletics.

The athlete’s first mentor was Azizkhan Kamirzhanov. The experienced coach noticed the natural abilities of the young athlete and began motivating him to participate in various competitions. Sherkhan admits that at the initial stage he had to face a number of difficulties. Nevertheless, thanks to regular training, persistence, and determination, he was able to overcome all obstacles and achieve significant results.

The athlete’s preparation for competitions follows a specially developed program. Before each competition, an individual training plan is created for him, based on which weekly and monthly stages of preparation are formed. This systematic approach allows him to improve his physical condition and demonstrate strong results at competitions.

One of the most significant achievements in Yegizbay Sherkhan’s career was the result he achieved at an international tournament held on February 7, 2026, in Turkey. According to him, during these competitions he was able to fully meet the sports qualification standard that he had planned to achieve over the course of the year.

Currently, the athlete is coached by two trainers — Nurlybek Sultanov and Azizkhan Kamirzhanov. The professional support of his coaches and systematic work during training help him continue improving his results.

According to Sherkhan, his family provides him with the greatest support. His parents and older brother play a particularly important role in his sporting achievements.

In the future, Yegizbay Sherkhan intends to perform достойно at international competitions and compete for prize-winning places. His main goal and dream is to participate in the 2028 Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

The young athlete, who is gradually strengthening his position in Kazakhstani sport, also plans to continue достойно representing the country on the international stage in the future.
