Meeting our athletes at the airport with the Asian Championship, which took place in Malaysia.
Recall that from 16 to 20 February, the Asian Cycling championship was held on the track, where the national team of Kazakhstan traditionally showed good results. In total, Kazakhstan cyclists managed to win 8 prize medals: 2 silver and 6 bronze.
Among the elite, the winner of the Asian championship twice became the rider of the Cycling team "Astana "Artem Zakharov – on his account" bronze "in the individual pursuit race and" bronze " in Omnium. It should be reminded that Omnium is Zakharov's "crown" discipline on the track, in which the cyclist from North Kazakhstan region entered the top 10 riders of the planet at the 2016 Olympics.
Thanks to the efforts of the Junior team added another 4 medals. Maxim Gridchin took 2nd place in the individual pursuit, Andrei Chugai took 3rd place in the sprint, Victor Head 3rd place in the 1000m Gita, and Ramis Dinmukhametov took 3rd place in the group race on points.
Kazakhstan Junior Anastasia Shapovalova also distinguished herself at the Asian championship – she managed to win two medals. On the second day of the competition the young racer brought the national team " silver "in Gita 500 m, and the third – "bronze" in the sprint.
In addition to prizes, the Asian championship for Kazakhstan was marked by another significant event – for the first time in the history of Cycling on the track, the Kazakh rider overcame a 10-second mark in the sprint. The author of the record (9,965 seconds) was Pavel Vorzhev.
"This championship for us acted as a leading competition to the Asian games-2018, - said the coach of the Cycling team on the track Vladimir Bushansky. - Of course, we would like to perform better, take the "gold". However, competitors do not stand still, this year they have become much stronger. Japan, for example, this year set a record for Asia in the team race. By the way, in the team race, our drivers took 4th place-this is a good result, given the fact that in preparation for important starts, we have recently focused on other disciplines. And team race in this championship has become a kind of experiment for us – to see how our young racers will cope. To get to the final without proper training-it's worth a lot, this is a significant reason to strengthen it in this kind of race.
I think that in sprint disciplines our students also showed good results. Pavel Vorzhev, unfortunately, failed to take the podium in the sprint, still played a major role psychology in the sprint-is one of the most important factors. He started with the world champion, perhaps, it strongly influenced his mood. However, given the fact that the sprint in Kazakhstan only last year began to revive – we showed good results.
I would also like to note that juniors from all countries have significantly added. This year it was much more difficult to fight them. But our would still have shown good results.
In General, this championship showed us the main competitors, showed our strengths and weaknesses. We have something to work on. At the end of August Asian games will start – our task is to approach them in the maximum form".
We will remind that earlier Kazakhstan national team on Cycling on the highway back from the Asian championship in Myanmar with 2 gold 1st bronze medal.
