Nur-Sultan Olympic Training Center: Women's Wrestling
Dear sports fans, we continue to introduce you to the sports of our Center. Today we present you to read information about women's wrestling.
A little history about the development of women's wrestling in the world-
Initially, wrestling as a sport, entertainment and training was a purely male occupation. Women rarely wrestled, although there is evidence from different historical periods about female wrestlers (the oldest known to us and the most famous female wrestlers are Spartan girls).
With the development of civilization, women, imitating men, gradually began to engage in sports invented by men. In some of them, small changes to the rules were introduced, adapting them to the peculiarities of the female body. While engaging in individual sports, women have also adopted the typical principles of training for men.
Since the twentieth century, women have been actively participating in wrestling competitions. In the second half of the twentieth century, freestyle wrestling became one of the most popular types of martial arts among women. By the 1980s, women's freestyle wrestling had gained recognition in all parts of the world and, in 2004, was included in the Olympic Games program, becoming the third women's Olympic single combat.
The International Wrestling Federation FILA was founded in 1912 and united more than 130 national federations. On September 7, 2014, at the PHIL Congress in Tashkent, it was decided that the main name of the international federation would be the English-language name United World Wrestling (English — "United World of Wrestling")
The first World Championship was held in 1987 in Lorenskog, Norway. All the gold medals were taken by European women then. Since then, the number of national teams in women's wrestling has been growing every year, and medals are already being awarded not only to Europeans.
Currently, women's wrestling continues to develop rapidly, especially after the debut of this sport at the Olympics in Athens in 2004, in London in 2012 and in Rio in 2016. Women's wrestling is becoming popular among girls not only at universities, colleges, technical schools and in high school - girls of almost infancy begin to engage in it. And they are engaged very successfully, because at this age girls are not inferior in strength to boys and often defeat them.
